Privacy Policy
Your privacy is our core foundation. We don't collect, store, or share your files.
1. Client-Side Processing
Zero File Uploads
All metadata inspection, editing, and removal operations take place strictly within your local web browser using client-side JavaScript APIs. Your files are never transmitted to our servers or any third-party infrastructure.
Because processing occurs locally on your machine, ScanMetadata has zero access to your file contents, file names, or embedded metadata.
2. Information We Do Not Collect
- ✓ We do not collect or store uploaded documents, images, or media files.
- ✓ We do not require accounts, logins, or payment credentials.
- ✓ We do not sell or monetize personal data.
3. Local Storage
We use your browser's localStorage exclusively to save your UI preferences (such as light/dark mode theme selection). Separately, and only for the current browser tab, we record whether you allowed the optional address lookup described below. Neither value ever leaves your browser.
4. Third-Party Services
Every asset this site loads — including all webfonts — is served from scanmetadata.com itself. There are no analytics, no advertising, and no tracking scripts, so opening a page contacts no other company.
Two optional features do reach the internet, and only after you press a button that says so: resolving a photo's GPS coordinates into a street address, and drawing the map that plots them. Both send the coordinates alone to OpenStreetMap, which logs the request under its own privacy policy. Your file, its name, and the rest of its metadata are never sent. Leave the button alone and no request is made.
